The breathtakingly beautiful dunes are the highlight of this 1550 km² national park. Wandering dunes extend up to 40 km inland. Thus, despite the relatively high rainfall (about 1500 mm), we find here the only desert of Brazil. The temperature varies between 16° C and 36° C. The wind is often strong. The water level of the lagoons in the national park changes; After a long dry period, several lagoons are sometimes completely dehydrated.

Day 1: Transfer from São Luis to Barreirinhas

It is also recommended to travel directly to Atins and enjoy this special, still largely undiscovered place as a starting point for excursions!

Afternoon: Excursion to the Blue Lagune (“Lagoa Azul”)

Day 2: Speed boat trip Rio Preguiças and Lençois Maranhenses

Morning
Take a speed boat north on the Preguicas River. In the small village of Vassouras you will see the end of the dunes of the little Lançois Maranhenses and the magnificent mangroves. Another attraction of Vassouras are the monkeys. Continue towards Mandacaru. From the lighthouse, you have a magnificent panoramic view of the Rio Preguiças, the national park Lençois and the beach of Caburé. If you wish, you can have a cool drink with coconut. Several rooms and restaurants offer a lunch (not included). 

Afternoon:
Continue (about 15 km) in a pick-up truck. The journey takes you on an adventurous sandy track between the cashew nuts and the park. Once there, you cross the dunes, which spread like a white bedsheet in front of you. Enjoy a refreshing dip in the freshwater pool and enjoy a spectacular sunset in the dunes. Overnight in Atins

3rd day: Atins and Tutoia

Full day:
Today, you will go to Canto de Atins, where you will cross the dunes (about 1.5 hours). You will be rewarded with the fantastic green lagoon. Here you can take a well-deserved and refreshing bath. Several rooms and restaurants offer a lunch (not included). In this remote area, you feel at the end of the world. Back to Barreirinhas. From there, drive to Tutoia (travel time about 3 hours). Arrival at the Pousada.

4th day: Atins – Delta do Parnaiba

After breakfast, we will leave Atins for Parnaiba and continue by boat through the magnificent Delta do Parnaiba, with 2700 km² the third largest delta in the world. The delta forms more than 80 islands in this area and is home to a wide variety of fauna and flora. The vegetation passes gently from the mangrove to the tropical jungle.

Day 5: Jericoacoara

After breakfast, we will go in 4×4 to Jericoacoara. This hike is not a normal transfer but once again an exciting and eventful day along beaches and white sand dunes like snow, including ferry rides, on the beautiful partially green lagoons where you can also swim (for example when before or after lunch at the “Lagoa da torta”). Arrival in Jericoacoara in the late afternoon.

Day 6: Jericoacoara

Jericoacoàra is known for its casual outdoor nightlife. Various local bars invite you to dance “Forro” depending on the day of the week. There are several great bars and restaurants. The beaches of Jericoacoara are among the most beautiful in Brazil. Enjoy  the Brazilian sun with about 300 sunny days a year. Relax, peace, beach life, music, good food, and a unique dream landscape.

Day 7: Jericoacoara – Airport

Transfer to the Jericoacoara Airport or with surcharge to Fortaleza Airport / Hotel.
