On April 21, 1960, Brasilia was inaugurated as the new capital of Brazil, planned and built at the request of President Kubitschek. Far from inhabited areas, then it was planned and co-designed by the famous architect Oscar Niemeyer. More than 32,400 workers were involved in the project and created a city which was awarded in 1987 the site as World Heritage by UNESCO. The approximately 2.1 million inhabitants enjoy many lakes, wide roads and parks. The futuristic architecture became world-famous and the people of Brasília call with a little humor “modern city”. The visitors have interesting attractions available. Whether the National Congress, the famous glass cathedral designed by Oscar Niemeyer, the beautiful national park with many animals or the Palácio do Planalto.
