Brasília

On April 21, 1960, Brasilia was inaugurated as the new capital of Brazil. President Juscelino Kubitschek had the city built on an uninhabited high plateau in the middle of the country. In just four years, world-renowned architect Oscar Niemeyer designed the futuristic city, which has become an icon of modern architecture. More than 32’400 workers have been involved in this project and have created a city that received a world cultural heritage in 1987 by UNESCO. The approximately 2.1 million inhabitants have many lakes, wide roads and parks.

The most impressive buildings of the city are the presidential palace, the national congress and the cathedral.
